The paintings reimagine the Major Arcana of the tarot as performative project: a system that responds, resists resolution.&nbsp; Embedded Arduino microcontrollers invite viewers to activate the pieces through touch, movement, or presence. These interactions trigger light, sound, and kinetic responses, transforming the static paintings into living systems.Each work is symbolic of a tarot archetype, from the feelings it evokes through color and arrangement to the actions it requires of the participant. I borrow and decontextualize symbols from cultural influences such as cinema, theater, and mythology, where characters often reflect our struggles with identity. The protagonist, whom we associate with ourselves, is frequently drawn toward the uncertainty of erotic love in search of understanding, only to realize the beloved reflects their own ideas about love and reality. The circular motion of the two face molds represents time; like the arrow of time, the faces always turn, synching in and out with each other. The time-based medium of movies provides stories of characters whose lives weave together temporarily before separating into an interlude. Two face casts are rotated by stepper motors, each with an adjustable speed that the audience can control. By synchronizing the rotation, participants create a resonant sound. Left alone, the spinning gradually becomes more organic, while the sound grows increasingly dissonant. The characters emerge as attempts to reconcile these fractures within the subconscious: ways of rehearsing feeling, memory, and attachment after they have already begun to dissolve. Moving between roles becomes a means of catching up, of processing what cannot be held onto directly. Rather than offering resolution, the work lingers in the space between presence and departure, where identity reshapes itself in response to what is no longer there. The work personifies a small world turning in its own orbit. The living body behaves like a celestial object glowing, breathing, and spinning, while being bound by something larger - The Heroine’s Journey. The piece embodies the tension between the fluidity of emotion and the constancy of time. It draws on the phrase “As above, so below,” from the Emerald Tablet, suggesting a connection between sky and earth, light and reflection, motion and stillness, humans and the divine.
